Please find linked below a recap release regarding the successful forum conducted on January 20, 2023, at the county’s Historic Triangle; an event designed to educate our community about how to “Spot the Signs” of human trafficking.
Also linked is a sheet that lists some of the signs to watch out for as we encounter people in our daily lives – people who need our help. Human trafficking can happen anywhere to anyone who is vulnerable – it is not what Hollywood movies portray. We might encounter victims of human trafficking at school, in the grocery store, at large events, even at our courthouse or law enforcement office. Someone who enters the justice system as a defendant may instead actually be a victim of human trafficking.
Spot the Signs Forum – Event Recap & Release Jan 21 2023 Spot the Signs Forum – Signs of Human Trafficking Lists
Following the Spot the Signs Forum, a smaller group met at the Clay County Courthouse to view a special display of quilts. The First Coast Quilters Guild created quilt squares in honor of Human Trafficking Month (Jan) and will donate four of them to area charities that provide services to human trafficking survivors, Hope is Restored of Clay County and Rethreaded of Duval County. These quilts are on display in the Art in the Courthouse (AITC) Gallery, located on the 4th Floor of the courthouse in Green Cove Springs. The display runs through January 31st and is open to the public during normal business hours (M-F, 8am-5pm).
We are grateful to Motorola Solutions for their sponsorship of this event, which covered all related expenses. We appreciate everyone who attended. Thank you!
