Please be aware that our office will never ask for payment in the form of a gift card (prepaid debit card, etc). If you receive a request like this, know that it is a scam and report the call/request to our office immediately.
It is now not uncommon for scammers to contact Florida residents claiming they missed jury duty, requesting residents to pay a fine by purchasing a gift card payable to a Clerks’ office. This was reported recently in the Manatee County and Sarasota County areas, but it is not clear the extent of the spread of the scam.
We have not yet had any reports of this scam in Clay County, but want to alert our residents so you can avoid becoming a victim.
