Sadly, scammers keep up with the news and make note of new programs or services offered online by government offices or businesses. This can lead to a legit program becoming the target of a phishing scam – emails that look real but aren’t.
Here are some tips on how to tell the difference:
1) Look for a suspicious sender email address….the content in the body of the email may look real but the address it came from is questionable.
2) Bad spelling, grammar, layout, or a generic salutation
3) Suspicious attachments or links – don’t open or click on them!
4) False sense of urgency or even threats
When in doubt, please call the business or government office directly using a number you look up yourself, not one found in the suspicious email. We’re here to help!
