Property Fraud Alert Program Lists Now Exempt from Public Records Disclosure

The Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s office announces that the list/information collected for our Property Fraud Alert Service is now exempt from public records disclosure and again invites the community to sign up for this free service. On May 6, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 285, amending state statutes regarding the free notification programs offered by Florida Clerks. This amendment exempts vital personal information, such as names, phone numbers, parcel ID numbers, emails, etc., that were submitted upon enrollment to the service from public record.  Prior to this, when someone requests a list of all people who signed up for the program, Clerks were obligated to share this with the public as it was a part of the public record.

This new law protects the privacy of the citizens who sign up for the notification service.

As a reminder, our office’s Property Fraud Alert Service serves as our county’s free anti-fraud initiative that allows registered users to easily monitor their property records and report to local law enforcement any suspicious activities that may lead to property fraud. Although this service does not prevent the actual fraudulent activity from occurring, it provides the subscriber a more timely opportunity to verify whether the activity was initiated by them or by a scammer committing fraud.

Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller Tara S. Green hopes you’ll join her in combating fraudulent activities that threaten legal property ownership.

Public Notice - Main Courthouse

If you visit the Clay County Courthouse in Green Cove Springs over the weeks and months ahead, you will notice renovation projects happening here  – but all services remain available.

  • Construction/renovation began this week on the 2nd Floor (new side) – expect noise related to that work for several months (up to a year).
  • Contractors/vendors will enter/exit the courthouse regularly throughout the day, so parking in the area may be challenging – arrive early for any appointments.
  • Our Orange Park Branch and online options are available, as are other service options.
  • During September, renovation projects in Administration, Civil, and Clerk’s Finance (1st Floor) areas may temporarily alter those office/staff locations in the building, so pay special attention to security staff directions and signage.

Thank you for your patience during this time of improvement. Please keep an eye out for updates throughout the months ahead.
